Thanks to its Scottish settlers, this fine University City is known as the Edinburgh of the South. The abundant wildlife of the Otago Peninsula, which juts into the Pacific to the east of the city, includes the world's only mainland Albatross breeding colony, a Fur Seal breeding colony and a reserve for the Yellow-Eyed Penguin, rarest and oldest of the world's penguins. It is also home to Larnach Castle and its Garden of International Significance.
