About New Zealand
Although only about the size of Great Britain, with a population of only 3.8 million, New Zealand is
home to snow-capped alps, deep-cut fiords dotted with beautiful islets, luxuriant rainforests,
river-braided lowlands, active volcanoes, gushing hot springs and glorious unspoilt beaches. You'll
see an endless variety of unique flora and fauna, and everywhere the presence of Maori culture and
tradition.
Its agreeable temperate climate, long hours of sunshine make it perfect for a year round holiday
destination with a huge range of activities to suit all. The north of New Zealand is subtropical
and the south temperate. The warmest months are December, January and February, and the coldest
June, July and August. In summer, the average maximum temperature ranges between 20-30ºC and in
winter between 10-15ºC.
New Zealand is firmly established as being one of the worlds leading producers of excellent wines
with the standard and quality of cuisine to match. In addition with the exchange rate between the
pound and NZ dollar you can eat and drink at a third of what you can in the UK.
