Car Hire & Motorhomes
Car Hire & Motorhomes
Nowhere on earth is more suited to a touring holiday by car or motorhome than New Zealand. There are
only a few motorways, with most roads remaining relatively deserted, and everyone drives on the left.
State Highway One takes you from the furthest point north to the furthest point south, with other
State Highways branching off the major points across the country. Getting lost is difficult, driving
distances are short, the scenery is stunning and the people couldn't be more friendly or helpful. Petrol
stations are plentiful and accept major international credit cards. Unleaded petrol costs in the region of
NZ$1.50 and diesel NZ$1.00 per litre. Maximum speed limits in towns and cities are 30mph and 60mph on the
open road.
Budget Car Rental
As one of New Zealand's leading car rental companies, Budget offers All Ways Pacific clients an excellent
service. You can choose from the latest and most popular cars. available from over 60 locations, including
airports and ferry terminals in both North and South Island. If your hotel is within 10km of a Budget depot
they will deliver, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30am and 4pm.
When travelling between North and South Island you leave you car at either Wellington or Picton terminal, your
luggage will be personally transported across and you will collect your car on the other side.
Kea Motorhomes
Motorhomes offer the ultimate touring holiday freedom and flexibility. Go where you want, when you want, spend the night on a deserted beach or stay in one of New Zealand's 300 top quality campsites. We recommend choosing one of the four types of motor home offered by award winning company KEA. They operate the most modern fleet in New Zealand, and the average age of the vehicles is under one year. Their depots are in Auckland and Christchurch.
Rail
Rail
Sit back, relax and enjoy some of the finest scenery in the world from a range of rail routes linking New Zealand's
major cities and tourist attractions. Travel through area's you would never be able to reach by road, in the
spacious comfort of a carriage with panoramic windows. A team of friendly staff serve morning and afternoon tea.
They also point out scenic highlights and provide background information about the area's travelled through. Most
trains have buffet and bar facilities and some have a special viewing carriage.
Ferry
The Interislander
The 85 km sea journey between the North and South Islands is one of the world's great short scenic cruises. Sailing on the Interislander service, you travel through the lovely islands and bays of the Marlborough Sounds, across the frequently quite rough waters of Cook Strait, past the rugged coastline at the entrance to Wellington Harbour and into the Capital's sheltered waters.
This roll on, roll off ferry service provides a relaxing and enjoyable cruise of just over 3 hours, carrying passengers travelling with cars, motorhomes or on foot. Each ferry has a range of restaurants, cafes and bars, movie theatre, entertainment areas with Sky TV, reclining lounge seats, numerous observation decks, gift shop and a visitor information counter.
The Interislander offers a Club Class lounge at a small supplement. This is a non-smoking area restricted to adults over 15. Complimentary refreshments and a range of newspapers are available. Seats are limited so we recommend advance booking.
Services operate 7 days a week all year round, however timings do vary with the seasons.
